Ingredient Breakdown

Beta-Alanine: Beta-Alanine is the rate limiting amino acid in the the synthesis of Carnosine, a di-peptide capable of reducing Lactic Acid build-up in muscle tissue during exercise, thus enhancing muscular endurance. Beta-Alanine supplementation has proven to be an effective means of increasing muscular Carnosine concentrations and enhance muscular endurance, mostly in the range of 3-6g/day. Doses as low as 1.6g have been used but higher doses will accumulate in muscle tissue and convey benefit faster.

L-Arginine Malate: Arginine is an amino acid that is integral for Nitric Oxide production, though supplementation has proved to be a pretty inefficient/ineffective way of enhancing exercise performance in any way.

PMP contains L-Arginine Malate, a novel form that seems like a bit of a reach by GAT. Although we’re not aware of any literature that GAT has released explaining the use of Arginine Malate, the reasoning likely has to do with the fact that Citrulline Malate is the preferred form of Citrulline and the addition of Malic Acid may improve efficacy. Again, we’d consider this a reach. There is no evidence suggesting that L-Arginine Malate is an effective pump or performance enhancing ingredient.

L-Citrulline/L-Citrulline Malate: As mentioned above, Citrulline (usually appears as Malate) is an effective performance enhancing ingredient which has been shown to increase muscular endurance in healthy human subjects. It is considered much more reliable for increasing plasma Arginine levels than supplemental Arginine.

Ideally, we’d prefer to see just Citrulline in the GAT PMP formula, as oppose to Arginine and Citrulline, since they are intended to fulfill the same function but Citrulline is actually proven to be effective. Furthermore, the fact that Citrulline and Citrulline Malate are listed third and fourth in a 3.125g proprietary blend, makes it clear that PMP contains significantly less than a clinical dose.

L-Norvaline: There is preliminary evidence to suggest that Norvaline is an Arginase Inhibitor and therefore may be able to cause an indirect increase in Nitric Oxide, but it hasn’t been studied in humans for this purpose. So, in the context of GAT PMP, we’d consider Norvaline a pretty speculative ingredient, though not necessarily ineffective.

Agmatine Sulfate: Agmatine is generally included in pre-workouts as a pump-enhancer based on preliminary research which indicates it can increase the activation of Nitric Oxide Synthase, the enzyme responsible for triggering Nitric Oxide production. Although it has not been studied in humans, based on preliminary research Agmatine is certainly one of the more promising pump-enhancing ingredients and ultimately one that we deserves a spot in any pre-workout designed to enhance Nitric Oxide production (like PMP). The only issue we have with its use in PMP is one regarding dosing. Since GAT has chosen to conceal the precise amount of Agmatine in a proprietary blend, we have no idea how much is in there. Our guess would be 500mg or so based on a 900mg proprietary blend, but we can’t be sure.

Glycerol Monostearate: Glycerol has become pretty pervasive in pump pre-workouts because it effectively draws water in muscle cells. As a performance enhancer, Glycerol may only be effective during long-term exercise, but it certainly may induce a noticeable pump. Unfortunately, it’s unclear how much Glycerol is present in the PMP formula, as GAT has elected to conceal it in the proprietary blend along with Agmatine.

N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine: Tyrosine is an amino acid that serves as the precursor to Dopamine and Noradrenaline, two neurotransmitters that regulate focus and mood. Research indicates that, while Tyrosine supplementation cannot outright increase Dopamine and Noradrenaline levels, it can help preserve them during periods of prolonged stress (exercise is a stressor).

Theanine: Theanine is an amino acid found alongside Caffeine in Green Tea and has a solid amount of research behind it which indicates that it can improve cognitive function, reduce stress, and counteract some of the negative side effects of Caffeine while complementing the benefits. Unfortunately, we have no idea how much Theanine is in GAT PMP due to GAT choosing to group Theanine and Tyrosine in a proprietary blend.

Caffeine: Caffeine triggers the release of certain neurotransmitters which increase mental alertness, focus, and perceived energy. It can be especially useful for those who are tired prior to hitting the gym and can drastically improve workout performance, so it generally forms the basis for pre-workout supplements, such as GAT PMP, which contains a hefty 325mg.

L-Carnitine HCL: L-Carnitine has many uses. Most notably it has been shown to enhance exercise recovery and can potentially enhance exercise performance as well. There is preliminary research which indicates it may improve cognitive function, which is probably why GAT grouped it in with Caffeine, but most likely the dose is too low to really provide much benefit.
