GLA-The Omega-6

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an omega-6 fatty acid found in plant oils. The omega-6 fatty acids liolenic acid (LA) and arachadonic acid (AA) are pro-inflammatory while (GLA) and dihomogamma-liolenic acid (DGLA) are anti-inflammatory. GLA can be converted to either arachadonic acid (AA) or dihomogamma-liolenic acid (DGLA) in the body, though supplemental GLA obtained from oils is preferentially converted to DGLA and not AA, leading to an anti-inflammatory effect.
