Acetyl-L Carnitine is an amino acid. One hard gelatin capsule contains 500 mg of free form crystalline pure Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine has the same basic form as the amino acid carnitine. It also shares some similar functions, such as helping in metabolizing food into energy.

One of the most effective nutrients to maintain youthful cellular energy metabolism is the amino acid acetyl L-carnitine (ALC), which functions via several mechanisms to protect cells. ALC assists in the transport of fat through the cell membrane and into the mitochondria within the cell, where these fats are oxidized to produce the cellular energy ATP. ALC is the acetyl ester of the amino acid L-carnitine. ALC is absorbed into the bloodstream more efficiently than L-carnitine. It passes more easily through cell membranes, and is utilized more efficiently in the mitochondria of the cell.

    I love this supplement. I have a handful of supplements that I take when I'm trying to lose weight and this is one of them.

    I have noticed if I take it too late in the afternoon it has kept me from being able to fall asleep on time...but, other than that it's great!
